Overview of the RunFast/Max Adjustable Weighted Vest

With over 3,500 reviews and 4.6 out of 5 stars, the RunFast Weighted Vest is a fan favorite. Note that it’s available in a Pro Version that features a pocket for your phone and earbuds. It’s the only feature that sets it apart from the standard RunFast vest we’re reviewing today.

Main features:

  • Nylon construction

  • One size fits most

  • 12-140lbs weight capacities

  • Available with or without shoulder pads

Let’s go in-depth with what makes this vest a good option, and what to consider before making that purchase.

General Features

The vest comes in a variety of weights that range from 12lbs all the way up to 140lbs. There are 4 weight pouches in the front, and 4 in the back for even weight distribution (5 pouches for the bigger vests).

Price ranges from $32.38 to $429.99 depending on how much weight you want.

Each vest comes with weights included (according to the amount that you purchase), and they’re all easily removable so you can adjust the weight of the vest as you prefer. For cardio, we recommend starting with a weight that is 10% of your body weight.

You can purchase the vest with or without shoulder pads. However, if you’re considering heavy weights and longer workouts, you’ll want those shoulder pads. More on that later.

The one size fits most is suitable for most people. If you’re under 5ft tall, the vest may be a little long for you. However, the width isn’t a problem as you can adjust how snug the vest is using two velcro belts across your stomach.

Perks of the RunFast Weighted Vest

There’s a lot to like about this RunFast weighted vest, starting with its weight variety. The weights available fit anyone’s needs, starting from 12lbs all the way up to 140. Yes, this vest will hold 140lbs. That’s a workout. The weight pouches are distributed evenly across the front and the back so your balance won’t be thrown off when you’re working out.

Fully adjustable, weights included

The weights are easy to remove from or add to whichever pouch you please, making adjustments even easier. The weights come with the vest so no need to purchase additional weights.

Keep in mind that if you get, for example, the 80lbs vest, then the maximum weight it can take is 80lbs. It’s only made to hold that specific amount of weight. Each vest also includes a manufacturer’s warranty provided with purchase.

The waist belt is made of two straps that velcro onto each other and can be cinched using the smaller belts. This provides a snug fit and reduces bounce. The added water bottle holder strap on the waist belt is also convenient.

Drawbacks of the RunFast Weighted Vest

While the material is soft, breathable and made to withstand the weights added, wearing the vest without shoulder pads can be uncomfortable.

We tested the vest without the shoulder pads, and after about 10 minutes of running, you can feel it start to rub. If you wear a tank top or something similar where your shoulders are exposed under it, this could be a problem. And if you’re using heavy weights for strength training, you’ll obviously want the pads. Why the vest is even offered without them doesn’t really make sense.

Another issue is the weights themselves, they’re sandbags. Some other weighted vests use metal bars instead. It’s just a matter of personal preference. Sandbags are more comfortable, but can be prone to tears and hence leaking all the sand out. It’s not a common or recurring issue, but it’s still something to consider and keep an eye on while using it.

How to Use Weighted Vests

Can’t get to the gym? Ready to level up your daily run? A weighted vest will help you build muscle, increase strength, and increase your calorie burn. They can be used in a variety of exercises, just remember to start light and build up the weight gradually to avoid injury.

Remember to distribute the weights evenly across the vest. Don’t add all the weight to the front or back of the vest and leave the other side empty, as this could cause you to lose your balance and increases risk of injury.

Final Verdict

The RunFast/Max Adjustable Weighted Vest is definitely a great vest to consider. Despite the few drawbacks it has, the versatility and variety it offers certainly outweigh the cons.

Built with most body types in mind, the one size fits most can easily be adjusted using the waist belt. The weights can be added to or removed from the pouches to distribute the vest’s overall weight however you prefer.

This vest is great for cardio or bulking up, as it’s available in weights up to 140lbs. It’s a great investment for anyone looking to step up their game.
